Apple Partners with Synchron to Develop Brain-Controlled iOS Devices
Apple Inc. has entered a groundbreaking collaboration with neurotechnology company Synchron to explore brain-computer interfaces for iPhones and iPads. The partnership aims to develop assistive technology that would allow users with physical disabilities to control Apple devices through neural signals.
Synchron’s Stentrode implant, positioned on the brain’s motor cortex, captures neural activity and wirelessly transmits commands to external devices. This stent-like technology represents a significant leap in making mainstream consumer electronics accessible through thought-controlled interfaces.
The initiative underscores Apple’s continued push into health technologies and accessibility features. While initially targeted at users with mobility impairments, the neural interface technology could eventually transform how all users interact with personal devices.
